Millet

Millet

Since 1921, Millet has been assisting those who write mountaineering history: Lachenal, Desmaison, Bonatti, Messner, Profit et al. Based in the French Alps, we design technical products that are increasingly eco-friendly.

Our mantra, Rise Up, reflects this force that calls us irresistibly to the heights, driving us to seek the best of ourselves deep inside. This has been our philosophy since day one, and we embody it daily in our three pillars:

Innovation: This guides us every day. In 1950 we designed the Annapurna 50, the first backpack to reach the 8,000m peak of Annapurna; and in 2020 we are designing the Trilogy E-One, the lightest airbag on the market.

Environmental protection: We want to be a sustainable business. This commitment is tangible in all our technical innovation work, but also in every aspect of how we think about and improve our impact on our products’ lifecycle.

Community: Guides companies, athletes and ambassadors are our source of inspiration, pushing us to achieve excellence in each project. They test our products, testing them hard in the toughest conditions with the goal of reaching the summit. Like them, we target excellence.

Trilogy product, the essence of Millet's innovation know-how.
Developed and tested in the heart of the Alps, the range delivers the technical response best suited to the extreme commitment of our athletes and of our partner companies' guides.
Trilogy line is the result of 100 years Millet expertise, enriched by our collaboration with the world's most prestigious guide companies. They test and approve these products and push us to innovate again and again.

Our responsability
To contribute to slowing down the effects of climate change, it is our responsibility to accelerate our transformation. We have initiated the process to turn into a regenerative company long ago.
Our vision is that of a company which takes care in minimizing the negative impacts of its activities on society and the planet, all the while maximizing a positive contribution. To carry out this vision, we have defined a mission that extends into 6 pillars, laying the groundwork for this regenerative company to operate effectively in 2030.

Our 6 pillars
CIRCULAR PRODUCTS
RENEWABLE RESSOURCES
SAFE SUPPLY CHAIN
PEOPLE
“CLIMATE LOVERS”
GIVE BACK

CIRCULAR PRODUCTS
A product should only exist to meet specific needs. To carry sustainability and ethics, and to create a closed-loop system, a product should be engineered with a complete lifecycle in mind.
FROM PRODUCTS DESIGN TO END OF LIFE MANAGEMENT, DISCOVER ALL STEPS WE FOLLOW TO BE CIRCULAR.

RENEWABLE RESSOURCES
We are looking at prioritizing and standardizing the use of renewable materials for all products to reduce our environmental impact, and particularly our impact on the climate.
Most of our environmental impact comes from product manufacturing. We are making every effort to make the most efficient use of renewable or low impact materials and make 100% eco-designed products in 2030.
For the spring - summer 2022 season,  28% of our products are made of eco-responsible materials of which about 90% are recycled.
We have also chosen to make a strong impact by renewing our entire impact by renewing our entire range of UBIC backpacks in 100% recycled recycled material.

THE SAME ONLY BETTER 100% RECYCLED MATERIALS

SAFE SUPPLY CHAIN
We work hard at maximizing a positive impact at every stage, from the production of the fabrics used in our products to packaging and logistics, all the while reducing any negative impact on the environment.
65% of our products are made in factories audited on their social and environmental practice.
32% of our apparel is made in self-owned local production facilities, in Turkey and Hungary (2020).

Below is the map of the modes of transportation used to get our products from factories to market:

67% sea transport (Asie)
14% air transport (we endeavor to reduce this number each year)
8% road transport (around Europe)
10% ferry connection (Tunisie)

7% of our CO² emissions comes from the transport of goods and air transport, known for its high level of CO, accounts for 93% of this number.

To reduce our CO2 emissions, we are looking to maximize the transport of goods via sea. We are currently testing railway line transport from China to reduce the impact even more and to get more responsive.

PEOPLE ARE THE HEART OF OUR ACTIVITY

Employee involvement
We get the majority involved in thematic working groups coordinated by the CSR manager and a CSR steering committee. Both are in direct contact with the top management to drive our social commitment strategy.

WELL-BEING
Since 2020, we have set a telework policy to allow employees who would like to work from home to do so. This not only supports work-life balance but lessens our environmental footprint through reduced commuting.

We also organize external workshops several times a year to welcome inspirational speakers, meet brand ambassadors, discuss CSR projects, and screen films about environmental or social commitment.

In doing so, we created a working group called Greenside Collective whose role is to take actions to reduce the impact of our activities in the workplace and on the well-being of our people.

MOBILITY PLAN
We know that air pollution from fine particles caused partly by transportation is one of the major environmental issue in the arc of the Alps, so we have put in place a commuter plan internally to reduce the impact of work commutes.

Carpooling is organized to reduce individual commute.
A covered bike stand provides shelter for staff bikes and showers are available for staff

A GOAL FOR 2030
Because we totally rely on climatic health, we have developed a strategy to reduce our impact. The first step was to track our carbon footprint in 2020. This marks an important first step towards reducing our impact starting 2020 until 2030, leading us to reach irreducible (or residual) emissions we will offset by financing “negative emissions” projects to capture CO2 through regenerative agriculture, critically impacted forests management, or renewable energy development projects.
