Armada's Locator series skis are their first backcountry touring specific skis, a new direction for Armada, who made their reputation with backcountry freestyle and freeride skis. Armada call these skis backcountry freeride skis, touring skis built with the emphasis on downhill performance in the enormous range of conditions found in the backcountry with float, stability and versatility at weights that won’t sap the energy needed to charge the descents. While many touring skis emphasize ease of use at the expense of performance, the Locator skis are designed for intermediate and expert ski tourers who need a high performance tool for full throttle backcountry freeride descents. While the Locators have a medium-long turning radius giving slightly slower turning than most touring skis the longer effective edge means superior stability at speed in soft and variable snow conditions.
The widest ski in the series, the Locator 112 boasts a 136-112-128 mm shape yet weighs in at only 3.15 kg a pair (both 180 cm), pretty amazing for a ski this wide. Armada have done a very good job in keeping the weight of the Locators to a minimum, thanks to the Caruba wood core and cabon laminates. Caruba is light and offers a snappy flex, and also has the advantage of being very fast growing - up to 5x faster than poplar. 45° X-Ply carbon laminates provides torsional rigidity and lightweight strength while a Titanal central reinforcement ensures a reliable binding mount, however hard you ski, even in Telemark. Built for serious speeds in the backcountry, to maximize stability in all conditions Armada have given the Locators "low and slow" rocker lines both tip and tail, the longer effective contact length providing excellent stability at speed.
Built for epic backcountry powder days and equally epic terrain, the Locator 112 provides masses of float, high speed stability and the low weight that will allow you to climb efficiently even on the deepest powder days.
Caruba Core: Armada's lightest wood core delivers the best uphill feel while retaining the power and damping characteristics required for high-performance descending. EST Freeride RockerRocker / Camber Forebody rocker with extra tip taper ensures float in the soft stuff, while positive camber underfoot with no tail rocker delivers maximum edge hold. Ti Binding Dampener A Titanal and rubber sandwich beneath the binding reduces vibration felt through the ski boot. Sidewall Sidewall on 75% of the ski to allow for weight savings in the tip and tail while maintaining ridgitiy and edge hold. 1.7 Lightweight Edge Lightweight and strong, this heat-treated edge minimally affects ski feel for a snappy responsel. Comp Series Base Sintered UHMW polyethylene with added carbon increases wax absorption for speed and durability. Ti Binding Dampener A rubber/titanal/rubber laminate under the bindings dampens shocks and vibrations AR Bat Tail Self Center Tail Clip The surf inspired tail shape allows skin clips to self center, making it impossible for a skin to slip off.
