How to choose your sleeping bag? Down or synthetic?
The first question to ask yourself is: what will you use it for? You need to determine the environments and conditions in which your sleeping bag will be used. For example, synthetic insulation offers excellent thermal performance in damp conditions.
Next, consider weight. For the same fill weight, down is more efficient than synthetic: warmer, more compressible, and more comfortable.
Finally, think about budget. Synthetic insulation is less expensive than down.
For a given temperature rating—determined by how you plan to use your sleeping bag—choose the lightest model possible within your budget.
