Black Diamond Equipment was founded in 1989, when former employees of Chouinard Equipment Ltd. acquired the assets of Chouinard after it filed for bankruptcy. Chouinard Equipment had been founded in the 1950s by climber Yvon Chouinard and was known for pioneering climbing gear and also founded Patagonia clothing company. Black Diamond has continued his legacy with a focus on climbing and skiing equipment, moving its base to Salt Lake City, Utah, close to the Wasatch Mountains and an ideal location for product development and testing.
Black Diamond produces a full range of climbing equipment for both rock and winter climbing, mountain and outdoor clothing, headlamps, ski & trekking poles, backpacks, footwear and backcountry touring and freeride skis.
We have always liked Black Diamond's commitment to developing the best possible equipment to allow climbers, skiers and trekkers to achieve their goals in challenging mountain environments.
