It's never easy for a ski manufacturer to update or improve on a ski that’s been a reference for it’s category. So many people are resistant to change, but we only progress with change. The Zero G 105 replaces the legendary 108, which was a real freeride ski, but light. The new Zero G 105 is really very light (3.35 kg/ pair 188 cm) for its size, and since stability and the ability to filter vibrations often comes with the mass, one had to wonder if the Zero G 105 would inherit the Blizzard character and performance we’ve come to expect, in particular the torsional rigidity. Skiing hard in chopped up snow quickly lets you see what a ski has in it’s guts and we’re pleased to report that this brand new Zero G 105 works really well, with a real efficiency for such a light ski. The Zero G 108 was a reference for aggressive ski tourers who wanted a strong technical backcountry ski and these skiers will not be disappointed with the new ski. With more tip and heel rocker, the Zero G 105 offers even more performance in deep snow while in variable snow conditions Blizzard has managed to keep the ski rigid and effective despite the reduced width. While the Zero G 108 gave little room for error, the geometry of the Zero G 105 gives the ski a more playful character (at least by Blizzard’s standards!!). Skiing powerful turns on hard snow, the Zero G 105 does not quite match the performance of the Zero G108 but the new shape improves comfort, forgiveness and playfulness while maintaining impressive performance in most snow conditions. This new Zero G 105 is a very good addition in the mid-fat performance rando category. Designed for skiers with good technique, the Zero G 105 is a superb versatile backcountry ski.
