Black Diamond updated their freeride / sidecountry range last season and for 2024 the excellent Impulse 104 stays unchanged.
Like the previous Boundaries, the Impulse 104 retains a poplar core and full ABS sidewalls, giving very good torsional rigidity, excellent cushioning and good stability.
We loved the comfort and absorption capacity of the old Boundaries, so it's good news to see that this durable and efficient construction has been retained.
More flexible, but quite rigid in torsion, the Impulse 104 offers a more developed freeride feeling with improved snow contact.
Black Diamond have given the Impulse 104 a shorter 18 m radiusand the skis respond very quickly to being put on the edges while remaining very stable when carving long turns.
Ski weight is reasonable at 3.8 kg/pair  179cm, resulting in a ski that's super stable but which can still be mounted with free-rando bindings for sidecountry touring.
The Impulse 104 is a real Swiss army knife, with a remarkable ability to work extremely well whatever the terrain and superb ski-snow contact, possibly thanks to it's production in Austria.
Black Diamond has added a playful side to the Impulse 104 which it must be said, did not exist in the Boundary skis. 
This makes the Impulse 104 one of the most balanced skis in its category, a precise ski but never difficult, and effective without asking enormous effort from the skier. Altogether a very impressive ski.
