One of our most popular free-rando skis for many years, the Orb Freebird is a supremely versatile free-rando ski with a 90 mm waist that offers true all mountain performance in all snow conditions. While not the lightest ski for it's width, the Orb Freebird showcases Black Crows' philosophy of designing touring skis that prioritise downhill performance while remaining light enough for free-rando touring.
The Orb Freebird stays unchanged for 2025, Black Crows have wisely decided to leave a great design unchanged.
Turning radius is 18 m, giving an excellent compromise between agility when needed in tight terrain and the ability to make fast longer turns when skiing open bowls.
The Orb Freebird has a lightweight construction with a paulownia wood core combined with a glass fibre / carbon support. A titanal plate underfoot gives the Orb Freebird stability on hard snow and helps prevent binding pull out, however Black Crows do not recommend their Freebird touring skis for use with telemark bindings.
Weight, or the lack of it, is always a key criterion for touring skis, and the good news is that the Black Crows Orb weighs only 2.80 kg / pair 173 cm giving good uphill efficiency combined with the same excellent skiabilty for which the Orb Freebird is reknowned.
With enough width and rocker for good fresh snow performance, the Orb Freebird has improved hard snow performance and retains the all-mountain performance which made it such a popular free rando ski
Offering efficient climbing and reliable downhill performance, the Orb Freebird is designed for intermediate and expert ski tourers looking for a medium-wide free-rando ski that works well in all snow conditions.
