The Backland UL (Ultra Light) series are Atomic's lightest ski touring skis, built for travelling as fast and as far as possible in the backcountry.
There are three models, the Backland 65 UL, Backland 78 UL and Backland 85 UL and these skis showcase Atomic's ability to create cutting edge ultralight skis that offer minimum weight, skiability plus reliability in the backcountry.
Updated with subtle improvements for 2023, the Atomic Backland 78 UL bridges the gap between lightweight touring and true skimo race skis.
Weighing only 850g  per ski (163cm length), the Backland 78 UL has a 111-79-100 mm sidecut and medium short 15.5 m turning radius, making these agile and easy to turn in all situations.

A light ski that skis as well as it climbs, the Backland 78 UL has Atomic's All Mountain Rocker with moderate tip rocker for easy turn initiation, camber underfoot for grip in hard snow conditions, and flat tail for stable transitions in tricky snow.
The HRZN Tech tip gives superior float in fresh snow and cuts through chop and crud when conditions are variable and features a slot for attaching and removing skins quickly - no time lost when transitioning!!
We recommend the Backland 78 UL as a great choice for intermediate and expert ski tourers with good technical ability who will be able to make the most of these relatively narrow skis. 
With a narrower profile and lower weight than the Backland 85 UL, the Atomic Backland 78 UL will appeal to endurance tourers wanting to travel fast and far in the backcountry yet have a more versatile and forgiving ski than a true race ski.

Rocker / Camber:
All Mountain Rocker: 15% tip rocker, 85% camber, flat tail.
Core:
Atomic's Ultralight Woodcore uses caruba and poplar to make a light ski with a snappy flex.
Laminates:
Atomic's Carbon Backbone is an ultralight carbon spine that extends the length of the ski to provide support and stability.
Carbon fibreglass laminates give torsional rigidity for reliable control in all snow conditions.
Tip:
Atomic's sculpted HRZN Tech Tips add 10% more surface area to the tips, giving improved tip float for the same ski width as well as reduced tip deflection and improved tracking in variable snow conditions.
Sidewalls:
Atomic's Dura Cap Sidewall combines a vertical sidewall for power transmission combined with a small cap for durability.
