In the ski industry Fischer has been one of the manufacturers making the most effort to reduce their resource and carbon footprints and create more sustainable products. As well as using solar panels, geothermal energy and recyclable packaging, Fischer are now redefining how to manufacture more environmentally skis, boots and accessories by choosing sustainable and/or recycled raw materials and minimising the material wastage, water and energy use during production. The Curv GT 85 Redefine is the first ski produced where each step of the production process has been optimised to minimise raw material and energy consumption, resulting in a 36% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the traditional manufacturing process. Fischer claim that there is zero wood waste when making the core, with 50% of the base and sidewall materials coming from recycled sources.
Fischer make two versions of the Curv GT 85, the "standard" model and the environmentally conscious Curv GT 85 Redefine. The Redefine has a slightly softer flex but otherwise offers very similar performance, showing what is possible with recycled materials. The widest ski in the Curv GT series, the Curv GT 85 Redefine is a piste / all mountain carving ski. Built with a 133-85-118 mm shape, the GT 85 Redefine is wider than pure carving skis with just enough width to make offpiste forays fun. With their racing pedigree and long expertise in designing high performance carving skis, it's no surprise that the Curv GT 85 Redefine offers excellent edge grip however hard you carve, is stable at speed and very agile, with quick edge to edge transitions. While not made for mogul skiing, we found it was pretty impressive going through the bumps and the slight tip rocker supplying a stable ride in variable and softer snow conditions. Easy and fun to ski, Fischer have designed these skis for intermediate and advanced skiers. (Fischer use a scale of 1-10 and rate thse skis for level 6-9 skiers). We really enjoyed testing these skis, with their mix of race carve and all mountain performance. If you spend most of your time skiing inbounds and would like to reduce your environmental impact, then there's no better ski than the Curv GT 85 Redefine
Core: Beech woodcore for balanced flex and low weight Construction: Classic Sandwich Sidewall construction for well balanced and tonic flex. Laminates: Shaped Ti 0.8 mm titanium sheet with specific contouring for stability at speed and a smooth damp ride. Rocker: Tip rocker, camber underfoot, flat tail. E-Triple Radius Sidecut: Triple radius sidecut with 15 mm radius at centre of ski and longer turn radii at the tip and tail. Base: Sintered UHMW base for optimal wax absorption and long life.
