Black Crows are above all about Big Mountain skis. Skis that are long, wide freedom machines designed for big mountains and deep forests. Skis for off piste resort skiing and for making the most of backcountry powder. Black Crows big mountain skis are built with either a single-rocker profile, like the Corvus, which have a more traditional alpine feel, and double rocker models such as the Nocta, Anima and Atris, which suit a more playful, modern style of skiing.

Unchanged for 2020 apart from the design of the topsheet, the Nocta is the widest Black Crows ski. Built to supply great flotation, the Nocta ski is the ultimate toy for big conditions. The association of great float, full reverse camber and straight edges allow the Nocta ski to accumulate big flotation in powder, good stability on the edges and a great handling. We often hear that the Nocta is an exclusive ski that's only suitable for really big conditions. It is true that this is where the Nocta excels, with exceptional flotation and pivot. The inverted camber coupled with low weight make it superb for skiing trees and in tight and steep terrain. In heavier powder (the kind we know well in the Pyrenees!) the Nocta requires a little more balance to avoid that "tippy" feeling common with extreme reverse camber skis.
If you are looking for more conventional powerful freeride performance for long turns in all types of snow, take a look at the Anima.

In more typical "all mountain" conditions the Nocta performs surprisingly well, stable thanks to the long radius so you can ski fast and confidently even in cut up snow. Snow contact and feedback are good and we liked the easy pivot even on steep slopes, even if the Nocta lacks heel support, it is stiff enough and lets you turn on the spot. On piste it requires a bit of technique but taking into account the width of the Nocta you can really carve and it works surprisingly well.
The Nocta is a ski unique. There is nothing else like it and we loved it in light powder and on steep / tight terrain, but also when it was out of its element but was still a pleasure to ski.

Features: Black Crows Nocta Ski 2020

Big width
122mm waist.
Reverse Camber
Easy pivot and easy to carve.
Extended sidecut
Big turning radius, giving stability at high speed.
Flex
Moderate flex along the whole ski for tolerance and high performance.

Apart from new graphics, the excellent Atomic Bent Chetler 120 stays unchanged for 2020. The Bent Chetler 120 combines the playful character of it’s ancestor with a new Karuba/Carbon light core and HRZN Tech Tip to make a ski that is clearly focused on the backcountry and rando / powder.
The Bent Chetler 120 is perfect at low speed. Often powder-type skis that are good at low speeds are less so at higher velocities, so it’s a welcome surprise that while we expected this ski to fade at speed, in fact it performs well. You need to remain centered on the ski without applying excessive pressure to the ski tips. In powder and in consistent snow, the Bent Chetler 120 requires a fairly neutral position, which can be a little disconcerting for skiers who like directional skiing that require lots of pressure on the shins, or skiers too loose or lacking technique with a position too far back on the heels. In soft snow, the Bent Chetler is pure delight, and makes you want to make the most of the terrain, exactly why you went in the backcountry! On piste the Bent Chetler 120 grips well and even tracks quite precisely. The only downside is in cut-up crud and variable snow, where the light weight makes these more susceptible and where you’ll need to turn down the speed dial a notch. On the plus side, the low weight of the Bent Chetler 120 lets you hike and tour, which was unthinkable with the old model.
The 2020 Bent Chetler 120 gains offers superb versatility for the backcountry, A modern ski designed for the latest trends in backcountry skiing - lightweight, playful and a pleasure to ski, far from the resorts.

Outline Ski 2020 - Line

New this winter, the Line Outline is the fat ski of the Eric Pollard collection and replaces the Magnus Opus and Mordecai.

Eric Pollard has been looking for new designs taking ideas from snowboard design with the Convex Base Technology which allows the tip and the tail to pivot effortlessly without grabbing or snagging. The Outline has long rocker both tip and tail, but long rockers that start with minimal rise then open out towards the tip and tail extremities.
Relatively soft flexing, the Outline is not a charger and prefers soft snow where you can express your freestyle creativity, the Outline being a great tool for transmitting this.
On hardpack the centered mounting position and long rockers prevent the tail from providing rebound at the end of the turn, but grip is otherwise reasonable for a reverse camber ski with 117 mm at the waist !!
Voted the #1 Powder Ski by Freeskier Magazine, the Line Outline is really designed for playful soft snow freestyle skiing and this it does really well. A great choice for offpiste freestyle skiers.

Menace Proto F-Team Ski 2020 - Dynastar

Menace Proto F-Team Ski 2020 - Dynastar

Having been a leader in freeride skiing for many seasons, Dynastar had lost their crown since the Cham series (exaggerated rocker spatula, pintail heel making the skis difficult to drive in bad snow, in short a questionable geometry...). And yet here, with the Menace Proto, we can say that Dynastar has gone back to the drawing board and has produced something interesting. We are absolutely delighted to see Dynastar again with thoughtful and relevant designs rather than an accumulation of technical features not necessarily made to go together.

What's unusual with the Menace Proto F-Team is Dynastar's decision to give the ski a good stiff tip, almost more than at the tail (while we see rather the opposite on the majority of skis). And this works!! The tip crushes the terrain, it is hyper intuitive but still requires the skier to ski with pressure on the tibia, in trad alpine style. The tail rocker lets the Menace Proto to slide, but these skis demand the skier's attention at low speed. Strongly built and with vertical sidewalls, the Menace Proto F-Team benefits from Dynastar's know-how in building reliably solid freeride skis.
With a good mix of old-fashioned freeride and backcountry, the Menace Proto F-Team still looks more like freeride than backcountry.
A powerful ski that swallows everything before it plus with a little modernity to slide, the Menace Proto F-Team is a very good ski.

Mindbender 116C - K2 Ski 2020

New for 2020, K2's Mindbender 116C is not a chubbier version Mindbender 108Ti, but a very different ski, designed for skiing soft snow, with a completely different construction and rocker profile.

Mindbender 116C - K2 Ski 2020

New for 2020, K2's Mindbender 116C is not a chubbier version Mindbender 108Ti, but a very different ski, designed for skiing soft snow, with a completely different construction and rocker profile.
K2 have given the Mindbender 116C a "Carbon Spectral Braid" construction with a higher density of carbon at the tip, which then reduces progressively throughout the length of the ski to the tail. The K2 Mindbender 116C has a very toned flex, with excellent rebound exiting the turn which will please skiers who enjoy dynamic skis, without demanding too much effort. This construction, coupled with a maple / paulownia core allows the K2 Mindbender 116C to be both light and playful.

This character makes the Mindbender 116C the perfect powder toy, while it's not too rockered tail provides good support in difficult terrain and changeable snow conditions. With it's very homogeneous flex, with a point of equilibrium positioned quite far back, the Mindbender 116C can be skied hard with pressure on the tibia, or more centered to enjoy the very good pivot. Agile and fun in the woods, stable at high speed and offering good and playful sensations in fresh snow, the K2 Mindbender 116C is a superb soft snow ski, whether mounted with alpine bindings, or a solid touring binding for deep snow backountry skiing.

Features: K2 Mindbender 116C Ski 2020

Torsion Control Design
Designed to enhance stability and control in all snow types, Torsion Control Design combines a progressive torsional flex with a balanced and even longitudinal profile. Torsionally stiffest in the forebody and center of the ski, then easing throughout the tail, K2 skis with TCD have both precise, accurate turn initiation and smooth, consistent turn release in all snow conditions.
Carbon Spectral Braid
An extension of K2’s Torsion Control Design, Carbon Spectral Braid is a first of its kind variable angle reinforcement (Patent Pending) that allows for precision tuned torsion and flex by altering the fiber orientation along the length of the ski. Lively, energetic, and remarkably composed; Mindbender skis with K2’s Carbon Spectral Braid have stability and control in spades while remaining hyper-maneuverable.
SlantWall
Adding a 30° angle to the sidewall in K2’s Hybritech construction, SlantWall increases a ski's agility and responsiveness while maintaining accuracy and power.
Core
Maple / Paulownia wood core. Maple is an energetic, tough, dense wood that absorbs impact. Paulownia is a lively, flexible wood with excellent weight to strength ratio.

Rocker
Powder Rocker

Kastle have updated their hard charging FX HP series for 2020, freeride resort skis built for strong experienced skiers wanting high level performance in all situations when skiing on and off piste. We were afraid that Kastle may have excessively softened the character of the 2020 FX range, which were known for both performance and also taking no prisoners, but in fact they have developed these skis in the right direction, reducing ski weight without losing ski-snow contact.

The widest model in the series, the FX116 benefits from the same technological improvements as the FX96 HP and FX106 HP.
Kastle FX skis have a loyal following amongst serious skiers who loved the performance and the stability offered by the titanal construction, and it's good to see that the new design (see below for all the techy details) has been so successful, being lighter yet still very precise. If you're looking for a modern high performance fat powder ski you're at the right place, no need to look further.

Features: Kastle FX116 HP Ski 2020

Hollowtech 3.0
Kastle's patented, key technology is unique to ski manufacturing. By removing unneeded layers in the front of the ski the ski is lighter. This results in several advantages: the ski becomes up to 30 % damper, the ski feels more stable, edge-grip is more powerful, steering is more precise and the overall weight is reduced.
The new version 3.0 of our HOLLOWTECH technology has been revolutionized: It is now even lighter and features exclusively in the FX and PX ranges. HOLLOWTECH 3.0 is created in two layers. A new outer ring cuts out even more materials to save more weight. The size of the HOLLOWTECH is precisely matched to the shovel of each particular model - for performance that´s unbeatable.
Woodcore
Each Kästle ski is built with the finest wood core, manufactured with precision to one-tenth of a millimeter. This allows us to control the weight, responsiveness and dampening characteristics of the ski, resulting in a high-quality, durable product.
Sandwich-Sidewall Construction
Kastle adapt our Sandwich-Sidewall Construction from alpine racing and consider this technology a distinguishing feature of all of our models. This design gives every Kästle Ski optimal flex and torsional rigidity, creating sensitive and direct power transmission and ensuring total control, even at high speed. For the RX12 SL Kastle used the classic SANDWICH-SIDEWALL CONSTRUCTION.
For the FX series Kastle used the POWERZONE-SANDWICH-SIDEWALL-CONSTRUCTION, which combines the benefits of the classic and the SEMI-CAP-SANDWICH-SIDEWALL
Elliptical Radius
Each model is designed to have its own carving characteristics, which is based on the ski’s intended application, by adjusting the radius along the waist of the ski. The shape of the Elliptical Radius determines how quickly and aggressively the ski enters and exits a turn.
Graphite Sinter Base
Kästle uses uncompromisingly high-quality UHM SINTERED GRAPHITE bases, like those used in ski racing, for all its adult skis. This creates a durable, long-lasting base with excellent glide performance and wax absorption. Our children and junior skis feature though, easy-care extruded bases.
Camber
Kastle built their skis with classic camber and distinguish between Standard Camber and Low Camber:
With LOW CAMBER, the ski center is slightly elevated and the contact points are moved toward the ski center. The effective edge is consequentially less, and the ski is more playful and forgiving
Shovel and Tail:
With the shovel and tail design, we can refine the aggressiveness of our skis.
The HOOK FREE SHOVEL is a longer shovel that is often combined with Early or Progressive Rise. With this design the contact point to the snow is moved toward the center of the ski, thus ensuring a more forgiving and playful performance.
The HOOK FREE TAIL is often combined with Dual Rise and a longer tail, with the contact point being moved toward the center of the ski. The result is a forgiving, playful performance when exiting a turn.
Rise
With Rise technology, the shovel of the ski is optimized and control its float depending on the ski’s application.
PROGRESSIVE RISE optimizes float and easy turning in freeride conditions.
DUAL RISE technology combined with an adapted camber profile creates a ski which guarantees the best float, even in the deepest of snow, without losing responsiveness.
HP - High Performance
Kästle HP are high-performance models that allow skiers to reach and exceed their limits. Kastle creates unique constructions with additional carbon for the most demanding skiers. Connoisseurs recognize this feature through the HP lettering on each ski.

Black Crows have given the Anima a new topsheet for 2020 but the ski stays otherwise unchanged. A big mountain ski that combines power and manoeuvrability, the Anima ski is extremely stable at high speed thanks to the 21m long radius. Powerful yet playful, a great choice for skiers who like big lines, jumps and fast pivots to change direction. A true twin-tip with 22% tip rocker, 18% tail rocker and a short 60% central cambered section, the Anima is highly reactive, nimble for such a fat ski and great fun. Black Crows know when not to change a winning design. If you're looking for a powder ski for creative powder skiing, take a look at the Anima.

Kristofer Turdell says:

"The anima is the ski i used in every contest and for most of my days on skis over the past two years. the turning radius is long enough to make it stable at high speed and its slightly softer tail makes it manoeuvrable in tight places. it's the perfect mix between ski width, taper, turning radius and rocker. Kristofer Turdell."

Thanks to a full wood core sandwiched between two sheets of metal, the Enforcer series deliver exceptional power and stability while still offering a smooth and playful ride. The Enforcer 110 is Nordica's freeride powder ski.
Nordica wanted to ask: how do you make a powder day even better? Their solution is the Enforcer 110, which they call the most advanced powder ski ever made.
Based upon the tried-and-true design of the Enforcer 100, the Enforcer 110 is the newest addition to the Enforcer collection.
Designed for soft snow, the Enforcer 110 is as powerful as it is playful.
To keep the ski’s weight in check without compromising performance and fun, Nordica use a balsa wood core with carbon and two sheets of metal.
This design enhances response and dampens vibrations for an especially smooth ride.
To aid float and turn-ability in crud and chopped up snow, the Enforcer 110 sports high rise tip and tail Powder Rocker.
Designed for expert skiers wanting to ski high speed long radius turns.
Choose the Nordica Enforcer 110 for big mountain deep snow performance.

Carbon Flipcore D.R.T. makes the ski less demanding and less aggressive in softer snow while maintaining power and stability under foot. Uni-Directional Carbon Fiber in the tip and tail improves longitudinal stability of the rockered areas of the ski and reduces swing weight delivering a more fun and playful skiing experience.
Shape Freeride
Progressive wide body style with an aggressive radius (18-19 m a 180 cm). Early rise tail designed to be playful in softer snow.
Duratec
Duratec is the use of a thicker textured surface combined with maximum edge radius and aluminum tip protectors to contribute to the durabilty and longevity of your skis.
Lite Core
Wood cores that is naturally strong but lightweight are strategically constructed for maximum performance while reducing weight.
Rocker Camber Rocker
Specifically designed rocker in the tip and tail with camber underfoot increases the carving character on groomed trails while maintaining flotation off the slopes.

Alchemist Wailer 112RP - DPS

The Alchemist Wailer 112RP is the latest version of DPS's revolutionary Wailer 112. With a shape that has become a modern classic, the Wailer 112RP offers supreme powder performance combined with ease of use in all snow conditions.
When DPS first developed the Wailer 112 this ski carried the ‘RP’ moniker as a suffix. With the latest generation of the Wailer 112 the ‘RP’ is back in the name to highlight the legendary shape with a 15 m radius combined with deep tip and tail rockers.
What's more, the latest Alchemist carbon construction increases smoothness, which can be lacking in carbon skis. The Wailer 112 has dominated magazine tests since it's introduction thanks to it's shape that truly makes people ski better.
As well as supplying mind-blowing powder planing performance, the Alchemist Wailer 112RP has the versatility for complete control and g-force generation in harder conditions.
Try the Alchemist Wailer 112RP once and you'll be bitten for life !!

Mindbender 108Ti - K2 Ski 2020

There is no doubt about it, K2's new Mindbender 108Ti is a big success. Its Y-shaped titan construction, if not revolutionary, give superb torsional stiffness, especially underfoot and when one puts the ski on the edge. In terms of longitudinal flex, the ski deforms well and the tail, less torsionally stiff than the tip, makes the ski more manoeuvrable. K2 have certainly worked hard to successfully optimise the flex of the Mindbender 108Ti.

In terms of longitudinal flex, the ski deforms well and the tail, less torsionally stiff than the tip, makes the ski more manoeuvrable. K2 have certainly worked hard to successfully optimise the flex of the Mindbender 108Ti.
We were lucky to test these skis last spring and found they really do work perfectly in all snow conditions. Transitions are extremely fluid, the ski has a huge ability to filter changes in snow density and the K2 Mindbender 108Ti performs amazingly well in chopped up crud. On piste it carves superbly, few skis with 108 mm underfoot can carve like these K2s, with similar performance to the Blizzard Cochise or the former Line Supernatural 108, without being so energy-demanding. Excellent edge grip and angulation makes the Mindbender 108Ti one of the best freeride skis on groomers.
Off piste, the shape of the ski works wonders. The K2 Mindbender 108 is light, planes well even at low speed and the tip does not push the snow but remains fluid while staying above, even if the rockers are not overly marked. The Mindbender 108Ti is not a surfy ski, and the weight and stiffness require the skier to take charge. It is not hyper playful either, but has a more neutral character, in the good sense of the term, like many K2 skis.
Very versatile, the K2 Mindbender 108Ti will make a good "quiver killer" if you're looking for one ski for all conditions encountered during the winter. We recommend the Mindbender 108Ti for good skiers who want a powerful ski for skiing fast, with just the right amount of modernity to pivot easily in fresh snow. The Mindbender 108 Ti is an absolute success, with one of the best balances of stability and fluidity in it's class.

Alchemist Wailer 110 C2 - DPS Ski 2020

Alchemist Wailer 110 C2 - DPS Ski 2020

DPS are reknowned for producing beatiful skis and we could ignore the new Alchemist Wailer 110 C2!! This ski is quite different from the Wailer A112 RP and A100 RP and is aimed at more technical skiers. With a 22 m turning radius, longer ski-snow contact thanks to the shorter and less pronounced tip & tail rockers plus a stiffer flex, the Alchemist Wailer 110 C2 is solid underfoot, perfect for skiing hard in changeable conditions and chopped up snow.

With the Alchemist Wailer 110 C2 DPS have produced a ski that does not take an edge and automatically carve a turn, as do some short radius freeride skis, but a ski where the skier decides in real time the trajectory he wants the ski to take.
The Alchemist Wailer 110 C2 is therefore more directional than the Wailer A112 RP. It's more technical carbon construction gives superb torsional stiffness which requires the skier to work in unison with the ski and the terrain.
In powder, the Alchemist Wailer 110 C2 is really surprising, supplying the driving power of a DPS which is a lot of fun and you feel that even as you ski hard it's still quite easy (although it obviously does not have the Wailer 112's famous ability at low speeds).
The Alchemist Wailer 110 C2 is a beautiful freeride ski that works superbly in all snow conditions, designed for intermediate and expert skiers who will enjoy the this skis capabilities, especially in long turns.

Line Sir Francis Bacon Ski 2020

Line Sir Francis Bacon Ski 2020

Sir Francis Bacon - Line Ski 2020

Sir Francis Bacon - Line Ski 2020

Updated for 2020, Line's new Sir Francis Bacon continues to appeal to freestyle backcountry skiers while offering a broader field of action compared to last winter's model.
Skiers looking for a wide-ish all-mountain ski with a playful character will find this Sir Francis Bacon a good choice. With an almost symmetrical 143-107-139 mm sidecut for skiing switch fluidly, the 2020 model is lighter than the old version, weighing in at only 3.70 kg / pair 184cm, which is really light for a ski this wide.
This year's Sir Francis Bacon is also wider, with pronounced rockers for a ski with a 107mm waist, albbeit rockers with moderate rise.
Skier stance is quite centered, and you need to ski with balance without putting too much pressure on the tips.
With these skis you'll be heading straight for the fresh snow, where their performance is superb. The Sir Francis Bacon has a lot of rebound, which is very creative, while the pivot is excellent, almost like that of a reverse camber ski. Line's Powder Convex Base Technology (also present on the big Line Outline), brings a real plus with very fluid tip behavior, the convex tip prevents the tip from ever catching or grabing, and in doing so generates speed. While brands such as DPS or Atomic have used this concept to some extent with ski tips beveled at the edges, Line is unique in their design of this convex tip, a true technological feat.
Our only slight criticism of this very good Line Sir Francis Bacon would that it's relatively soft flex and low weight mean that it can't work miracles in chopped up crud, which demands a slower pace. On the other hand, one of the real advances of this year's model is its ability to carve on piste, the new skis flex really well when carving and edge hold is very good.
This is where we see the biggest difference with previous models of this ski. The new Line Sir Francis Bacon maintains it's excellent performance for Freestyle / Backcountry but with even better fluidity in powder and better behavior on the hardpack.
This winter we're very pleased with the new models from Line and the Sir Francis bacon has been improved and remains a strong player in it's niche.

Features: Line Sir Francis Bacon Ski 2020

Symmetric Flex
The same flex pattern in front and behind your boot conforms to terrain equally riding forward & backwards.
5-Cut Geometry
Not one, not two but FIVE different radii shapes are blended into the ski's overall sidecut to give you that intuitive control & unlimited turn shape.
Early Rise
The rise of the tip and tail begin earlier as the ski profile moves away from center making for easier turn initiation and helps get the skis up on a plane more quickly. This also means effortless float in softer snow.
Early Taper
The widest point of the sidecut begins tapering earlier in the tip & tail which reduces hook ups in powder.
Sidewall Construction
Ultra high density polyethylene walls over the edges absorbs vibrations for maximum durability for a smooth, stable feel.
Base
Fatty Base 1.7 mm sintered base
Partly Cloudy Core
A blend of light weight wood creating the best strength to weight ratio Line offer.

Ranger 107 Ti Ski 2020 - Fischer

Ranger 107 Ti Ski 2020 - Fischer

More rigid than its predecessor the Ranger 108, the 2020 Fischer Ranger 107Ti is equipped with a fairly moderate front rocker (compared to many of this winter's skis), but a rocker that is still a little more pronounced than that of the 108. A solid freeride / freerando ski for strong skiers who value downhill performance over long distance tourability, the Ranger 107Ti is a little heavier than the 108Ti. The added weight and design changes give the new Ranger much better snow contact, with improved vibration filtering, while the slightly shorter turn radius (18 m / 182cm) further improves the 107Ti's carving performance.
This is where the Ranger 107Ti excels. For a ski this wide, its carving skills, recovery and grip worthy of the best slalom skis make the Ranger 107Ti an excellent ski for good to very good skiers. Strong and solidly built, the Ranger 107Ti is obviously not the most playful ski in the class, nor the lightest, but its performance in all snow conditions makes it an exceptional choice for skiers wanting to ski full throttle with confidence in all conditions. As well as having plenty of width for deep snow conditions, the Ranger 107Ti is also a joy to ski on the hardpack. It's an unusual ski that offers fun and thrills however much, or little, snow is underfoot. Intermediate skiers be careful, you'll end the day with your thighs on fire!
