Updated with new carbon components for 2022, the Tecton 12 Carbon is Fritschi's top of the line free rando binding. For 2022 Fritschi use carbon fiber-reinforced composites for the toe units and heel units, The Tecton has the same sophisticated toe unit as the Vipec and an alpine style heel unit. This combination offers both a very high level of skiing security and excellent performance.
Unique amongst insert bindings, Fritschi's sophisticated toe piece offers 5-12 DIN lateral release adjustment and emergency release in the event of a major fall when climbing. Step-in is easy since the boot toe is effortlessly positioned thanks to the solid front stop and positioning guide. Toe jaws close easily, responding to slight pressure, and the jaws snap shut with the pin levers engaging precisely with the inserts. Lateral release adjustment is made using the screw at the back of the heel unit. The Tecton has a release range of 5-12 DIN.
Since lateral release is determined by the toe unit, there is no need for the heel unit to rotate, allowing Fritchi to give the Tecton 12 a fully alpine style heel unit for maximum power and control. The clamping system with a non-turning alpine heel jaw and rail transmits the power directly from the boot to the ski. The Tecton equals both the performance and the safety of alpine bindings, with prerelease prevented by the long dynamic path and binding reliably releases at the DIN setting. The alpine style heel unit allows the skier to switch between ski and walk modes without having to exit the toe unit, convenient and fast. To ensure the best possible skiing performance, Fritschi have given the Tecton's heel unit a massive 13 mm of flex compensation movement. Vertical release release adjustment is made in the heel unit, just like an alpine binding.
The Tecton 12 Carbon weighs 1260 g a pair including skis brakes, available in 90, 100, 110 or 120 mm widths. Ski crampon slots in the toe unit allow easy crampon attachment. Ski crampons are available as options in 90, 100 and 115 mm widths and are very easy to attach without the need to remove ski boots.
Fritschi manufacture only three insert / insert hybrid bindings and take the time to create innovative well engineered designs that offer something unique. The Tecton 12 Carbon will obviously be compared to the Marker Kingpin, both having an insert toe unit and alpine style heel unit. The Kingpin is lighter, while the Tecton offers more sophisticated release security. A full featured free rando binding that combines easy step-in, reliable release and a superb level of skiing performance, the Tecton 12 Carbon will please discerning ski tourers looking for a safe performance binding.
Lateral Release: Lateral release and DIN adjustment is in the toepiece, where the lateral forces are acting in the event of a fall. Elasticity: The highest elasticity of 13 mm prevents unwanted prerelease and cushions any lateral impact so that the ski always maintains a firm grip. Toe unit release lever: After the vertical release of the heel unit, the boot tips forward. Due to the pressure of the front of the boot on the Toepiece Release Lever, the boot is also immediately released by the toe unit. Uphill Emergency Release: The binding will release in response to high active forces. Clamping systems must be blocked while climbing to ensure stability. Solid Stop: The tip of the boot is optimally positioned by means of a solid stop in front and a positioning guide. Responding to slight pressure, the system closes with the pin levers engaging precisely in the inserts. The sequence of movements is comparable with that of an alpine binding. Alpine-style non-turning heel: The heel unit always remains laterally stable. Unlike other insert binding heel designs, power flow is not interrupted by a rotating movement when the skis turn.
