Because of the high fall factors in Via Ferrata (> 2) the climber has to use an energy-absorbing lanyard.
2 techniques exist to absorb energy, by friction (sliding of a rope or strap in a friction device eg in the Zyper-Y) or by ripping (ripping of stitching or webbing eg Scorpio).
The SCORPIO increases the safety of users and the ripstitch absorber is stored in a pocket, ready to be used.
The absorber is more compact and does not hinder movements.
The third short end enables you to clip in short to rest and to remain closer to the cable when traversing (e.g. horizontal or sloping progression).
